17 New Dams Ready to be Used This Year

MediaJustitia.com: President Joko Widodo targets the construction of 17 dams to be completed this year. The statement above was made at the inauguration of the Bendo Dam in Ponorogo, East Java, Tuesday (7/9/2021).

The 17 dams are spread throughout Indonesia and some of them can already be used. While other dams are still waiting for inauguration.

So far, 7 dams have been inaugurated. First, the Tukul Dam in Pacitan, East Java in February. Then the Tapin Dam in South Kalimantan and the Napun Gete Dam in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which were also inaugurated in February.

The next inauguration was held in March, namely the inauguration of the Sindang Heula Dam in Banten.

Some of the recently inaugurated dams are Kuningan Dam, West Java on the 31st of August, Way Sekampung Dam, Lampung in early September and then followed by Bendo Dam, Ponorogo Regency, East Java Province.

While the Paselloreng Dam in South Sulawesi will be inaugurated this week, three other dams in Sulawesi are targeted to be completed in October, namely the Karalloe Dam in South Sulawesi, the Ladongi Dam in Southeast Sulawesi, and the Bintang Bano Dam in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Then moving on to the month of November, where the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam in West Java are planned to be inaugurated.

The Tugu Dam and Gongseng Dam in East Java, the Pidekso Dam in Central Java, and the Margatiga Dam in Lampung are targeted for completion in December.

The existence of these new dams is expected to increase agricultural productivity due to the increase in water supply to the agricultural sectors.

“I would like to advise that this dam be put to good use by connecting it to all existing irrigation networks, so that once again the community, especially farmers, can increase their agricultural productivity,” said President Joko Widodo.
